Andre Breton, Man Ray, Max Morise, Yves Tanguy, Exquisite Corpse, ca 1927

This is an Exquisite corpse created by Andre Breton, Man Ray, Max Morise, Yves Tanguy in 1927. It is one of the earliest surrealist games known.

Exquisite Corpse

Exquisite Corpse is a collective collage of words or images called the cadavre exquis (exquisite corpse). Based on an old parlor game, it was played by several people, each of whom would write a phrase on a sheet of paper, fold the paper to conceal part of it, and pass it on to the next player for his contribution.

It is named exquisite corpse as the first sentence was:

The-exquisite-corpse-will-drink-new-wine.
– AndrĂ© Breton. (Waldberg, 93-94)
